Alzheimer’s is Real. Live With Prevention in Mind

Alzheimer’s is a very scary and horrible thing to happen to you or someone you love or even know. You probably have someone you know who was either suffers from or succombed to Alzheimer’s or was/is a caregiver for someone with this very unpleasant disease.

Alzheimer’s doesn’t have to be your brain’s destiny, says neuroscientist and author of “Still Alice,” Lisa Genova. She shares the latest science investigating the disease — and some promising research on what each of us can do to build an Alzheimer’s-resistant brain.

It is just one of the various types of dementia that happened to human beings. Vasular demetia, Parkinson’s disease, among a few.

One out of three people will develop the disease. Genentics, age, lack of sleep (deep sleep), cardiovascular disease work against us.

How can we live as to prevent Alzheimer’s?

Good diet, healthy habits and good, deep sleep can help but that’s not all you can do. Studies show that learning new things over time increases cognitive reserve (the ability to think about and approach life from varying perspectives). Increasing neural connections.

So reading and interacting with life from new perspectives is a great way to “Alzheimer proof” your brain.

AFC and NFC Championship Game Teams Announced

The divisional round of the NFL playoffs are done, and the teams who have made the AFC and NFC Championship Games are getting ready. Both the New England Patriots and Baltimore Ravens have been kicked out of the playoffs. It will be some exciting Championship Games.

Divisional Round Winners

The divisional round teams for the AFC are the Houston Texans versus Kansas City Chiefs and Tennessee Titans versus Baltimore Ravens. The Chiefs and Titans won their games. The Chiefs vs.Texans game ended 51-31, and the Titans vs. Ravens game was 28-12. The 2020 playoffs have been receiving shocks, mainly that the New England Patriots lost in the Wild Card round and the Ravens lost the divisional round. The Ravens, who was one of the Super Bowl favorites, was kicked out of the playoffs; the Patriots who was Super Bowl LIII winner didn’t even get a first-round bye lost too.

The Green Bay Packers went up against the Seattle Seahawks, and the San Francisco 49ers went up against the Minnesota Vikings. For the NFC team, winners for the divisional round were the Packers and 49ers. The final score for the Packers vs. Seahawks game was 28-23, and the score for the 49ers vs.Vikings game was 27-10.

AFC and NFC Championship Games

We only have one more game for both divisions before the Super Bowl. The Packers will be going up against the 49ers for the NFC Championship Game on January 19, 2020, at 5:40 pm Central Time. The game will be held at Levi’s Stadium, the 49ers stadium. Meanwhile, for the AFC side, the Chiefs will take on the Titans on January 19 at 2:05 pm Central Time. The Chiefs will be the ones hosting the Titans at Arrowhead Stadium. The Chiefs who went up against Patriots in last year’s AFC Championship Game lost in overtime while the Patriots went on to the Super Bowl. The Kansas City Chiefs who came back from a 24 point deficit in the Texans game look to be able to go all the way.

National Dress Up Your Pet Day is January 14, 2020

Do you love your pet? And you want to show him off in clothes and stuff? Well, this day is right for you. Tuesday, January 14, is National Dress Up Your Pet Day.

You can dress up your pet, whether it’s a dog, cat, snake, mouse, or even a spider. You can dress them up any way you want to! But just remember that if (1) your pet doesn’t like dressing up, let him sit this holiday out, (2) make sure the costume fits. (3) Many pets like to chew stuff, especially dogs, avoid loose dangling stuff. You can have from a tie to a full-blown cowboy, or cowgirl, outfit. Your pooch can have on bows, decorative collars, bandanas, hats, shirts, pants, and anything you can think of. Maybe even have your pet pick out something to wear.

This had to have started somewhere. Well, it did. Celebrity pet lifestyle expert and animal behaviorist Colleen Paige started this fun howl-iday in 2009. It celebrates your pet and supports the pet fashion community. Colleen Paige encouraged pet owners to spend time and have fun with their critters. Dress them up in cute, safe, and comfortable outfits and costumes. You won’t be alone when you dress up your pet, others will be doing it too.

KANSAS CITY, MO - JANUARY 12: Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce (87) heads up field against the Houston Texans on January 12, 2019 at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri. (Photo by William Purnell/Icon Sportswire)

Chiefs Go to AFC Championship Game for the Second Straight Time

Kansas City, Mo. – The Kansas City Chiefs went up against the Houston Texans on January 12, 2020. The Chiefs won 51-31. Now the Chiefs are going to the AFC Championship Game, which is January 19. There was also some worry that Travis Kelce would not play in this game due to an injury, but he did play as if he wasn’t injured.

The Texans Shine

The Texans haven’t started fast all season, but this game they came in fast and strong. Just in the first three minutes of the game, they made a touchdown and scored a field goal. When the Chiefs got the ball, they dropped it to many times, and in the end had to punt it. When the Chiefs punted the ball, the Texans blocked it and returned it for another touchdown and an extra point. On the Chiefs next drive, Patrick Mahomes, Chiefs quarterback, had a good play. He faked a handoff to the running back then threw a short pass to Travis Kelce, the Chiefs tight end. The Chiefs did manage to hold the Texans to a punt. They put wide receiver, Tyreek Hill, in, but he messed up and fumbled the ball, and the Texans recovered it at Kansas City’s 6-yard line. But the Chiefs got nothing on their drive. To end the first quarter, the Texans got another touchdown and an extra field goal, putting the score 21-0.

Chiefs Show Who They Are

Houston got another 3-point field goal to open the second quarter. That was the last time the Texans scored some points until the third quarter. When the Texans kicked off the ball to the Chiefs, wide receiver, Mecole Hardman, returned it for 57 yards. That got the Chiefs going and into a rhythm. The Chiefs got a touchdown from Damien Williams and the extra field goal point. They held the Texans to a punt again, but when they “punted” it, they faked it and tried to get a first down. But a Chiefs player tackled him before he got the first down. When the Chiefs were going to have to punt it, there was a flag on the Texans and the ball was placed at where the foul occurred, which was at the Texans 5-yard line. They got a touchdown from Travis Kelce and the extra field goal. The score at that point was 24-14, with the Texans still in the lead.

When the Chiefs kicked off the ball to Houston, the Texans receiver got hit hard on a tackle, and the ball popped out right into Darwin Thompson’s hands, a Chiefs defensive player. The Chiefs got a touchdown from that from Travis Kelce again. They also got the extra point. The Chiefs got three touchdowns in three minutes twenty-four seconds. The Texans got the ball back, but it ended up as nothing. When the Chiefs got the ball back, Patrick Mahomes had a good run of 21 yards. That drive ended up as another touchdown from Travis Kelce, and they also got the extra point. The score at halftime was 28-24 with the Chiefs in the lead. Both teams had 52 points combined, which was the most in the first half in any game in postseason history.

Second Half

Only four teams have come back from 24+ points in the postseason. The Chiefs had the ball to begin the second half. They had another nice play from Patrick Mahomes to Sammy Watkins. Mahomes threw it 43 yards to Watkins, who caught it. Kansas City got another touchdown from Damien Williams, but they missed the extra field goal. Right before the first half ended, Travis Kelce left early with a hamstring injury. Kelce did return into the game and was just as productive as before. The Chiefs got the ball back from the Texans and got a touchdown from Damien Williams, and they did get the extra field goal. The score was 41-24 with the Chiefs in the lead.

The Texans finally got out of their shock from every part of the Chiefs team and tried to make a comeback starting with a touchdown and the extra field goal. Kansas City matched it with another touchdown. This one from Blake Bell and they got the extra point. The Chiefs had seven straight touchdown drives during this game. The Chiefs made the last points of the game, which was a 3-point field goal. The final score was 51-31 with the Chiefs winning big. The Chiefs are the first team to win by twenty points after trailing by at least twenty points in a postseason game.

Patrick Mahomes

Patrick Mahomes had a slow start in the first quarter but came back as explosive as ever in the second quarter. This was his second game this season with four pass touchdowns in the second quarter. The first one was on December 1 against the Oakland Raiders which the Chiefs won 40-9. Mahomes completed 23 of 35, threw for 321 yards, threw for 5 touchdowns, and had seven carries for 53 yards. He had the most rushing yards for the entire team. The Chiefs even ran out of touchdown fireworks they made so many touchdowns.  [1] Patrick Mahomes is the only quarterback to throw for more than 300 yards, threw for 5 touchdowns, and rush for 53 yards.

The Chiefs are moving on to the AFC Championship Game January 19 against the Tennessee Titans. The game will be at Arrowhead Stadium and it will begin at 2:05 pm Central Time. The Titans are the only thing in their way to go to the Super Bowl in more than 50 years.

Apple Apps To Reduce Stress In The School Classroom

Apple released another app to help teachers and scholars, the Schoolwork app. In today’s world, people are turning more and more to electronics. People once carried a heavy backpack filled with notebooks, binders, schedules, and assignments. Now all that’s needed is a light piece of technology.

Many schools use tablets instead of textbooks. Most schools alert students of upcoming events online and have students turn their assignments in online. Technology is being created every day to make both the students and the teacher’s life easier when it comes to how to teach and how to learn.

Educational apps

Apple already had an app called “Classroom.” Classroom allowed a teacher to view what students see on their screen. It also allowed them to control and transfer files to students in their classes.

In mid-2018, Apple released a new app called “Schoolwork.” Schoolwork is Classrooms companion. Created to distribute documents, iBook files, web links, and assignments through ClassKit with due dates. Students can hand in their assignments and provide feedback through the app.

Schoolwork and the apps supporting it give teachers new insight into how their students are performing, helping them tailor their teaching to the needs and potential of each student.

Teachers have a snapshot of class performance and can check on an individual student’s progress across activities — progress within apps or projects they’ve created.

As with every Apple product, privacy and security features are built in so schools get to create, own and control the accounts used by their students and decide when student progress information is shared. [1]

Apple is marketing to a new generation of users with their new apps. They seem to understand that, like Jesus said, “But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant”.

In this age of tech giants, we can certainly learn one thing: when you supply demand (give the user what they want/need) your business will do well.

Packers Ask for 700 Volunteers to Shovel Snow at Lambeau Field

Green Bay, WI. – The playoff game is coming closer on January 12 for the Green Bay Packers. What’s also coming close is snow, and it’s piling up fast at Lambeau Field, the Packers stadium. The Packers are asking for up to 700 volunteers to shovel snow at Lambeau Field on January 12. You can look at the Packers official website to find more about it.

Working Information

The Green Bay Packers are looking for as many as 700 volunteers to help remove snow out of Lambeau Field before the game begins at 5:40 pm Central Time. Even though it doesn’t say you have to be a Packers fan, there is one requirement to help. You have to be at least 18 years old. The Packers will provide shovels for all who come, and if you drive, you can temporarily park in Lot 6 on the west side until the shoveling is done. Workers are told to report Sunday morning, January 12, 2020, at Fleet Farm Gate on the west side of Lambeau Field. You will begin working at 6:00 am. The volunteers will be paid $12 an hour, and you will receive the payment immediately after you finish your work.

For everyone’s safety, all the people that want to help shovel the snow will have to go through walk-through metal detectors. You cannot bring bags, backpacks, and purses inside the stadium. After you finish shoveling snow, the Packers will not let you enter the game unless you have a ticket.

With Wisconsin being up in the northern part of the United States, they get a lot of snow, ice, and winter weather. But both Packers fans and Packers players are used to it. But other teams aren’t quite so much. Lambeau Field is expecting 8-10 inches of snow from Saturday night going into Sunday. At the time of the game, some snow showers could fall, the temperature to be around 21 degrees Fahrenheit, with some slight winds between 4 and 7 miles per hour.

The Green Bay Packers are in the divisional round of the National Football League playoffs. On Sunday night, January 12, they will be going up against the Seattle Seahawks, who have been preparing for this game all week. The kickoff will be at 5:40 pm Central Time. Whoever wins this game will go on to the NFC Championship Game.

Swelling Creek

Creeks Swell in Low Lying Areas in Oregon County

Alton, Mo. – Oregon County’s rainy season runs from November through March, so we are right in the middle of it. So they have been getting a lot of rain lately. Creeks, rivers, and lakes have been rising rapidly, and there have been flash flood warnings all over the place. One place the swelling has been occurring in a creek on Highway M between Rover and Koshkonong. What was a calm creek is now a raging river with fallen down trees and water coming up on to the shore.

Swelling Creek

Approximately two and a half inches fell across a span of two days. Some places received up to 3 inches just last night. On January 10, Oregon County had strong winds, thunderstorms, and heavy rain. They even had tornado warnings until two in the morning. So be careful when you are driving around because some places may be flooded over and there may be some creeks or rivers that are swelled and it can be dangerous. Oregon County is also expecting more rain coming in today. [1]

Rush Drummer Neil Peart Dies From Brain Cancer

Neil Ellwood Peart, passed away January 7, 2020. He was a Canadian musician and writer best known as the drummer and primary lyricist of the rock band Rush. Peart received numerous awards for his musical performances.

His drumming was renowned for its technical proficiency, and his live performances for their precise nature and stamina. Rush concerts usually last over two hours and drumming at his level was a wonder to behold.

Cast in this unlikely role
Well equipped to act
With insufficient tact
One must put up barriers
To keep oneself intact
Limelight [1]

Neil’s penchant for privacy had become famous (infamous) where fans were taken back by his inability to be friendly with people he had no relationship other than that the fan had bought an album or heard him on the radio. He even spoke about his views on meeting fans in the song “Limelight.”

Living in a fisheye lens
Caught in the camera eye
I have no heart to lie
I can’t pretend a stranger
Is a long awaited friend
– Limelight [2]

Up until the end of his life, Peart’s family came first and fans second. He told the public that his retirement in 2015 was due to shoulder and age issues, but now we know that he was suffering from glioblastoma, a very aggressive brain cancer for the last three years.

He will be missed by his bandmates, fans, friends, and family, but his music contribution will live on after him.
