Things are already getting busy down on the court square this morning as we set up for the Alton 250 Community Potluck.
The desserts are already arriving, and they are definitely tempting us early!
A Big Celebration Means a Big Setup
America’s 250th birthday is finally here! Because folks do not even need to live in Oregon County to attend, we are expecting a very large crowd today for the free food, live patriotic and gospel music, and speeches. We are preparing for a fantastic turnout, and getting the physical space ready on the square is our top priority right now.
Setting Up on the North Side
We are currently getting the main stations put together over on the north side of the square. As you can see in the video, that includes our free snow cone station.

We will be fully stocked with plenty of different flavors to help everyone stay cool during the festivities today. If you’re handy with a folding table, we could certainly use you over here!
Setting the Stage For Our Veterans
We’re keeping a close eye on the clock this morning. Our local veterans are meeting at 12:30 p.m. at the Alton Assembly of God Church.
They will march in a special foot parade down to the square, and we want to make sure the area is picture-perfect for their arrival so we can honor them properly before the eating begins.
We Could Still Use Your Hands
The beauty of a potluck is everyone chipping in. There is still plenty to do before the historic celebration officially kicks off at 1:00 p.m. We are making great progress, but if you have a little extra time this morning and a couple of free hands, come on down to the square and help us finish getting everything put together!
It takes a community to throw a great party.
