Alton, Mo. – The Alton Comets and Thayer Bobcats girls varsity basketball teams faced off against each other on Monday, February 9, 2026, at the Alton High School Gym. The game also had a fundraiser for young local Carstyn Casey who is battling cancer right now.

Supporting Carstyn
Carstyn was asked to pick a color for the fans to wear in support of him. His chosen color was red. Both Thayer fans and Alton fans showed up in support of Carstyn, wearing all shades of red. A silent bake auction also happened during the game. At halftime, multiple cans were passed around to collect donations for the Casey family. Due to Allen Supported Living, The Hardwoods, and United Country Real Estate offering to match the donations made, a total of $19, 641.55 was raised for the Casey family. [1]
Game
Both the Comets and the Bobcats kept the score close throughout the game, with the first quarter ending in a tie of 12-12. The Bobcats managed to edge out the Comets in the second quarter lengthening the lead to seven points at halftime.

Second Half
In the third quarter, Thayer kept the lead to around ten points. During the third quarter, Thayer sophomore Ryleigh Davis (#3) scored her 1,000th point in her high school career. The score at the end of the third quarter was 46-32 with Thayer in the lead. Thayer had multiple breakaway runs that ended in points for the teams. Although the Comets tried to make a comeback, the final score was 64-54 with Thayer taking the win.
