Rep Elliott Announces Recent Legislative News

General elections.

Representative Keith Elliott is busy with numerous legislative acts in Jefferson City.  He is representing the 153rd district, including Oregon County residents. Among the more notable decisions they are working on are voting rights, school report cards, and the elimination of the state income tax.

Income Tax

With the due date for filing our taxes drawing near, income tax is uppermost in our minds. The Missouri House just passed an initiative to incrementally eliminate the state’s income tax. This resolution now goes to the Senate. If it passes there, it will be on our November ballots for legal citizens to decide whether they want it. This is one of the prominent items Governor Kehoe ran on.

School Accountability Report Cards

A new statewide school accountability system is under consideration. It would assign grades A-F to Missouri public schools. The grade would be based on student achievement, growth, and graduation readiness. High-performing schools could qualify for performance-based funding to support teacher recruitment and retention.

Voting Rights

Another bill would allow those on parole or probation to vote. This will not happen if their conviction was election-related.  Supporters say this would help them return to society.

Fathership Month

June is designated as Fathership Month. This proposal will create a project that strengthens fathers and their roles in their children’s lives.

Election Integrity

Missouri reports that 4.3 million people are registered to vote. They continue to maintain the records for accuracy.

Agriculture

Representative Elliot is on the agriculture committee. He is working on the US Congress labelling food and the country of origin.

Representative Elliott is running for reelection in November.
