Alton, Mo. – It was a picture-perfect night in a picture-perfect setting. Besides watching the World Cup Games and following the parades, flyovers, and sailing ships in our nation’s capital, Alton was celebrating in its own way. Vendors, political candidates, music, food, and fireworks make the evening memorable. This was a family-centered event.

Weather
With rain in the area but not in Alton, residents lingered at the fireworks, not leaving in a drenching rain as in some years.

Booths
Booth space filled rapidly as food vendors competed with political candidates for attendees’ attention. City and county candidates, along with judges, stayed close to convince voters that their ideas were best. Alongside them were fanciful foods from pulled pork to root beer floats. The cold treats did not last long! Bounce houses kept the children happy and cool.

Music
Patriotic music blasted from the speakers, encouraging everyone to sing along and thank God for our freedoms. Alongside the music, some of the recent Oregon County pageant winners spoke.

Fireworks Show
Once darkness arrived, the fireworks show started. For almost thirty minutes, the sky was filled with colors and sounds in celebration of our nation’s 250th birthday. Ooo’s and ahhs rambled through the crowd. Canons boomed across the hills as colorful lights lit the entire sky. It was a great performance.
