Alton, Mo. – Throughout summer birds are numerous to the Oregon County area. Bird watching is a hobby that one can cultivate easily from home at work, in the city or countryside, any time of day or night. Although setting up a birdbath and hanging a feeder are good bird attractants, there is more. The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) wants to help you enjoy bird watching.

What Is MDC Doing?

The MDC is offering a free virtual program entitled “Creating A Bird Sanctuary”.  MDC will host this online program on Wednesday, August 12, 2020, between 10:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. People of all ages can attend. Registration is required in order to get a link to view the program. One can register here.

What Will The Program Do?

This program will show bird-friendly habitats. Missouri Educator Jeff Cantrell plans on covering woody plants that provide food and cover for backyard birds. He will also discuss native flowers that are best for attracting hummingbirds.

Birds are a fun hobby for everyone who runs outside to the individual who chooses to remain indoors and enjoy nature’s beauty from the chair. This program will offer tips to include more birds and wildlife to your own yard for your viewing pleasure.
