Are you into boating? Maybe you prefer the quiet of the river with only you and a paddle floating downstream. Have you thought about making your own paddle? It is not as difficult as you may think. The Missouri Department of Conservation is hosting a class to guide you in your paddle-making endeavors.

What Is This?

The MDC is hosting a class on sassafras, its history, and how to make a paddle using traditional woodworking techniques. All work will be done with hand tools.

Where Is This?

This class is held in person at the Twin Pines Conservation Education Center in Winona. From Alton, take MO 19 north to US 160. Go east a couple of miles, and it will be on your right.

When Is This?

Plan now to attend. This takes place on Saturday, June 27, between 9 am and 3 pm.

Who Can Attend?

This activity is limited to those over the age of 15. One does need to register in advance.

This is an interesting trade that one can do in their backyard. With some knowledge, it could become a talent.
