The West Plains Council on the Arts announced the cancellation of a Community Messiah Sing this year. The community sing has been an annual event many families enjoy as a means of celebrating the Christmas season.

What Was The Announcement?

The announcement said,

During this time of increased positive COVID-19 test results, we simply cannot justify hosting an event where our musicians and many of our friends would be doing their very best to perform this beautiful piece. Try as we might, we haven’t found a way to offer this event with the restrictions we know are necessary. We look forward to the time when we can again safely gather to celebrate.

Is There A Reschedule Date?

The West Plains Council on the Arts has scheduled next year’s sing. [1] Larry Dame will direct the presentation on Sunday, November 7, 2020. The First Presbyterian Church in West Plains will host the community sing. The church is located at 112 Aid Avenue in West Plains, Missouri.

Any Substitutes?

A recording of the 2016 Community Messiah Sing is available on the West Plains Council on the Arts YouTube channel. They are hoping to have additional recordings available soon.

What Do They Sing?

The Christmas portion of Handel’s “Messiah” will be performed. The audience is encouraged to sing along. Even nonsingers are welcome to attend.

The West Plains Council on the Arts is sponsoring the event with partial funding provided by Missouri Arts Council, a state agency.
