Alton Comets Win Again, Advance To The Title Game!

Alton, Mo. – This has been a big week in Alton. The Big Springs Baseball Tournament is held at the Alton High School baseball field.  Teams participating are Winona, Summersville, Dora, Van Buren, Bakersfield, and Eminence. The Comets got a bye the first night. Last night, they beat the Summersville Wildcats, pushing them one step closer to a championship.

First

The Comets came ready to play, dominating the field. The first inning ended with the Comets up 3-0.

Second

Clary started pitching in the second inning. His fastballs ensured that three batters up would be three batters struck out.

Meanwhile, when the Comets were up to bat, they consistently got base hits. That cannot last.  Clary reached base with an RBI. So did Montgomery and Sechrist. Then Ruddy and Cauthen got base hits with two runs batted in. That inning ended with a score of 10-0.

Third

Summersville again got no hits or runs.

The big event for the Comets was when Clary hit a home run. Several players stole bases this inning. That closed with a score of 12-0.

Fourth

In the fourth inning, Thornton pitched and struck out the Summersville players.

Cauthen was hit with a ball. Holesapple got a base hit. While he was running there, two players crossed home plate. Clary got another home run while two men were on bases.

The Alton Comets won 17-0. They proceed to the championship game at home on Thursday at 6:00 pm. against the Bakersfield Lions.
