HWY 160 Alton Mo bridge construction.

Alton, Mo. – Anyone driving into Alton from the west heading east on US Hwy. 160 will be encountering construction at the bridge just west of Harp’s parking lot. Even going to the grocery store, one can’t help but notice road construction going on.

Missouri Department of Transportation (MODOT) is working on repairing the narrow bridge, and signs are everywhere on Hwy. 160 in Alton.

Where Is This?

MODOT is working on resurfacing and repairing the bridge on Highway 160.  Coming from town, as one passes Harps Grocery Store, a narrow two-lane bridge needs repair. Both directions are under construction, and the road is temporarily down to one lane.

Traffic lights- yes, traffic lights in Alton- to stop traffic and to allow traffic to pass through the one lane that’s open are set up on either side of the bridge. Although long backups are not anticipated in the near future (tongue in cheek…), one does need to take the delays in the future. Can’t just zip outa’ town now. We’ve got a stoplight.

When Is The Work Happening?

MODOT began the construction on July 13, 2020, and will continue until October 12, 2020, unless a delay happens. Work will continue for seven days a week. Traffic will be impacted for 24 hours a day until completion.

Will Impact School Routes

This construction project also means that once school begins and buses are running their routes, longer delays are to be expected before school hours and at the time school lets out. Drivers definitely need to take that into consideration when coming into or our of Alton at those times of the day.
