This is the year we celebrate America’s 250th birthday. Locally, we see patriotic colors in yards, there’s an Oregon County Pageant, and a Community Potluck. However, on a bigger scheme, large companies are exchanging their everyday wares for something more patriotic in honor of our nation’s 250th birthday.
Airlines
Southwest Airlines unveiled its newly painted plane. It is a bold red, white, and blue 747, called Independence One. American Airlines also has decorative planes.
Foods
Cheerios is promoting a birthday cake cereal. It tastes like birthday cake, for our nation’s birthday. Even the box will be patriotic red, white, and blue.
Coca-Cola is unveiling decorative cans and bottles in  Coca‑Cola’s first-ever America250 collectible mini-cans. Each mini-can features a design unique to one of the 50 states, Puerto Rico, and the District of Columbia, highlighting iconic local symbols — from Georgia’s peach to California’s “surfer culture.”
Keeping pace with Coca-Cola, Mountain Dew is rebranding itself as American Dew for the summer. It will also feature American flag-themed labels and packaging.
Oreo has gotten in on the anniversary excitement by announcing the launch of its Firecracker Pop cookie, which was scheduled to arrive in stores on May 4. The cookie has blue raspberry, lemon, and cherry-flavored creme sandwiched between two golden cookies.
More
As the date of our nation’s birthday, July 4, approaches, I am sure more businesses will want to express their American patriotism. Meanwhile, be sure to support those that you see in stores and around your neighborhood.
