Alton, Mo. – On Tuesday, September 15, 2026, volleyball returned to the Alton Comets playing court. The junior varsity and the varsity teams gave their all on the court, volleying and spiking against the Dora Falcons. Although they ended up short, the crowd was very impressed by their first year of play.
JV
The evening began at the FEMA building with the junior varsity playing. In the opening game, the Lady Comets gave the Falcons quite a run. Comets lost the first set 11-25. In the second set, they lost again 6-25. They also showed better ball control.
Varsity
Our varsity girls volleyball team played extremely well. They came out with the first score. They volleyed to each other, rescued balls from out of bounds, and, overall, played like a team. Nonetheless, the Lady Comets lost to the Dora Falcons 8-25.
The second set was a much closer game. Several times, the score was tied, encouraging each team player to do their best. However, experience paid off. The Falcons scored several points in a row, winning the second set 7-25.
Dora came roaring onto the floor for the third set, scoring the first four points. Alton came back and scored points, too. However, after a score of 4-15, the Comets scored only four additional points, while the Falcons scored ten. The final score was 8-25.
As a new sport this year, the girls show a lot of promise. Great job, Comets.
Their next home volleyball game is Thursday, September 24 at 5:00 pm.
