Alton, Mo. – The Alton Chamber of Commerce met on Thursday, September 17, 2026, at Jason’s Mexican Restaurant. Ten people were present to discuss the upcoming Walnut Festival, Trunk or Treat, membership, and the Pocket Park organization.
Festival
The Walnut Festival is two weeks away. This was the time to finalize the schedule, judging, sponsors, and prizes. They also discussed King John’s rentals, upping the quantity to four, and Pack Mule blocking off a street. The school choirs will perform.
Southern Bank awards prizes for pumpkin carving, and West Plains Bank sponsors the talent show. The chamber is leaving the woodworking prizes the same. However, the baking awards will be increased to $40, $30, and $20 for first-, second-, and third-place winners in each category.
The chamber does plan on selling walnuts again this year.
Trunk Or Treat
Last year’s Trunk or Treat was a huge success. The relays were fun for the entire family. The chamber plans to do it again this year on the square at the same time, on Saturday, October 31.
Park
The Pocket Park is in the works. The lawyer made changes to the proposed lease, and the chamber added additional changes. Another lawyer is also working on filing for 501(c)(3).
Membership
Membership letters have been updated and should be mailed or handed out soon.
The next chamber meeting will be held after the Walnut Festival and will discuss the trunk-or-treat.
