Thayer, Mo. – On Thursday, September 17, 026, Thayer held a town hall meeting. The meeting began with a discussion of Thayer’s future plans, followed by a discussion of a data center.
Comprehensive Plan
This discussion centered around a 5-year plan of what Thayer needs for mobility and community development. There are many grants available for streets, sewers, and sidewalks. There is significant tourism potential in Thayer that has yet to be tapped. In order, the priorities are streets and mobility, water and sewer, drainage, and community development. Rearranging the order could cause destruction and backtracking.
Data Center
Although the land being sold for a data center is not within Thayer’s city limits, concerned residents had a chance to speak with those involved. First, Charles McCullough spoke about his plans. Nothing is in contract; there are no offers of data centers, no buyers.
A data center is the heart of the internet. As more people use the internet, more information is stored on it. Additional space is needed. Charles spoke on the pros and cons of data centers. It would bring huge revenues to the area in the form of taxes.
Although residents of Oregon County were not pleased with the idea of a data center so close, Jake Parker remarked that the state and federal governments are behind data centers here. As Oregon County has no ordinances or policies regarding them at this time, it would be difficult to fight in a court. However, the county commissioner is working to create policies that will appear on our spring ballot.
There should be a website about a data center in the area that is going online soon.
