Alton, Mo. – On Thursday, May 21, the Alton Chamber of Commerce met at Collins Coffee on the square in Alton. Although the group was smaller than in some meetings, a lot was discussed, including the newsletter, the Walnut Festival, banners, and membership enrollment.
Newsletter
Have you seen the chamber’s newsletter? It highlights happenings in the county. It is a free printed form available at various locations throughout the county. It highlights a business and events. The chamber voted on the next business and some ideas for photos of what is happening. Additionally, they want to leave the printed newsletters in the Alton Library and the health clinic.
Banners
Laurel Johnson offered suggestions for purchasing a couple of different banners. They will share costs with the Culture Club. These banners will be displayed on the four corners of the Alton Square. Everyone approved her suggestions, and the motion carried.
Walnut Festival
As the Walnut Festival is a large event for the chamber, it takes up discussions in more than one meeting. This month, they discussed the music and its funding. Vendor applications have been printed and will be mailed this week.
Membership
The members discussed how to enlarge their membership base. Several people and businesses have been members in the past, but are not members now. It was suggested to have an ice cream social. It was brought up to hand-deliver membership enrollment forms. Maybe people need a personal touch.
Other items were discussed but not finalized. The next meeting will be in June.
