American flag flying in breeze.Commentary

American flag flying in breeze.

When people dishonor the flag and/or do not vote, they are saying they no longer want to be king, they are abdicating their throne, and want someone else to rule them.

Reverend Hooker

Rev. Thomas Hooker, preaching about choosing wise men amongst themselves, said, “The choice of public magistrates belongs to the people…according to the will and law of God…They who have power to appoint officers and magistrates it is in their power also to set the bounds and limits of the power and places unto which they call them…The foundation of authority is laid firstly in the free consent of the people.”

A republic is defined as supreme power resting in the body of citizens entitled to vote for people who will represent them.

James Madison

James Madison, the father of the Constitution, wrote that “the ultimate authority…resides in the people alone.” James Wilson, who signed both the Declaration of Independence and Constitution stated, “Sovereignty resides in the people; they have not parted with it.” Throughout our nation’s history, leaders have made this same proclamation.

…The foundation of authority is laid firstly in the free consent of the people.

The Pledge of Allegiance

The Pledge of Allegiance is to the flag, “and to the republic for which it stands.” A republic is defined as supreme power resting in the body of citizens entitled to vote for people who will represent them. When people dishonor the flag and/or do not vote, they are saying they no longer want to be king, they are abdicating their throne, and want someone else to rule them.
