Alton, Mo. – On Friday, May 17, 2019, the Alton, MO Senior Center hosted a bake sale/auction as a fundraiser for meals on wheels. Residents in the community could bring in baked items or various other items for sale or auction. By 9:00 a.m., the tables were full of an assortment of items.
The Alton Senior Center is located just off the square next to the Alton, MO Post Office. Besides providing nutritious meals daily in the building, they also provide meals for those who cannot get out. This is done through meals on wheels. Drivers arrive early at the center to pick up pre-made meals. They deliver these to individual houses.
Thanks Meals on Wheels
The senior center is a community landmark. It hosts an assortment of activities for its senior citizens and the younger citizens of the community. In the past they have held blanket drives or other food drives. Although these drives are prominent in the fall or around the major holidays, the center does not neglect our senior citizens other times of the year. The assortment of drives takes collections, and the items go directly to the seniors in our area. Bake or barbecue sales are a two-fold benefit. The buyer benefits with food he doesn’t have to cook. The seniors benefit from the bounty of others, knowing they are not forgotten, even cared for in a personal way.
