How long has it been since you stepped into a public school classroom? What was displayed there? A flag? Maybe Presidents? What about our national motto? Louisiana recently passed a law with a new requirement for each public school. Each classroom in each school needs to display our country’s motto: In God We Trust. While several states are working on changing history and making light of our American heritage, this state is attempting to keep things in perspective.

How Long Ago Was This Passed?

A Louisiana law called House Bill 8 went into effect on the first of this month, August 2023. In June 2023, the state’s Democrat Governor, John Bel Edwards, signed the bill into law.

Requirements For Display

This legislation requires each public school to display the national motto, “In God We Trust,” in each classroom. Furthermore, the motto must be displayed at least 11 by 14 inches on a poster. It needs to be printed in a large, easily readable font.

Other states have passed similar legislation, including Florida, Arkansas, South Dakota, Tennessee, South Carolina, and Texas/
