What do you know about canning? Fall is upon us, and this is the time to put away food for the winter. How do you get started? What do you need? What about helpful hints an experienced canner would say? Alton is hosting a canning workshop. Space is limited.

What Is Happening?

The Oregon County Extension Office is hosting a Water Bath Canning Workshop. In this workshop, Stephanie Johnson, Field Specialist in Nutrition and Health, will teach the basics of water bath canning through a hands-on learning experience. Topics to be taught include:

• Basics of water bath canning
• Canning recommendations based on research-based information.
• Principles of water bath canning high-acid foods such as tomatoes, pickles, salsa, fruits, jams, and jellies

When Is This Workshop?

This water Bath Canning Workshop will be Thursday, August 17, 2023, between 10:00 am and 1:00 pm.

Where Is This?

Victory Freewill Baptist Church is hosting this event. They are located at 14331 Mo-19, south of Alton.

Who Can Attend?

This canning workshop is open to new and veteran canners of all ages.

What Will They Make?

The class will make peach salsa and jalapeno jelly. Supplies are included in the cost of registration.

Is Registration Needed?
