Alton, Mo. – Mark your calendars! Christmas is fast approaching (less than 20 days to go) and as the holiday season is in full swing in Alton, Missouri, so are Christmas activities. This Saturday, December 7, Alton will be having its annual Christmas parade along with its Mr. and Ms. Merry Christmas Pageant on the town square.

Christmas decorations are already up inside the stores in Alton, wintery scenes are painted on store windows, and Christmas wreaths hang from the light poles around the square.

In less than twenty days Christmas will be here- in less than 30 days it will be a new year and Christmas decorations will be taken down for next December. It’s easy to get caught up in the idea that Christmas will happen in a month, next thing you know, Christmas is tomorrow. Nobody likes to wait until the last minute to prepare so mark your calendars for December 7, this Saturday, for the Christmas parade in Alton.

The Parade

Unlike parades in years past, this years parade will begin at 5 p.m., directly after the Mr. and Ms. annual Christmas Pageant which will start at 4 p.m.

The beauty pageant will not be held at the Alton High School this year, it will be held at the courthouse steps. The parade will still start at the High School parking lot as it has in the past.

This years theme is “Light up our Town” and floats are encouraged to be decked out in lights as it will be darker than usual.

After the parade, stores around the square will be offering special holiday deals as well as hot cocoa and cookies until 8:30 p.m. so be sure to plan to stay a while after the parade and hang out with friends and family.
