2020 Presidential Election— Funny Numbers Cause Voter Consternation

In a republic, what could be more important than numbers, that is, numbers in elections? It’s the very essence of the election process, and elections, particularly presidential elections, over the last few years have become quite contentious.

We also know how easy it is to play with numbers. Statisticians become magicians pulling funny numbers out of hats to arrive at all sorts of conclusions. Witness how the experts spin COVID-19,  all the “studies” on whether you should eat eggs or not, and so on and so forth. Or, as Twain put it, “There are lies, damned lies, and statistics.”

So the numbers are being disputed in the national elections on November 3rd, 2020 because of allegations of voter fraud in so-called “battleground” states by the Trump campaign and poll watchers. They argue that the math just doesn’t add up.

Those allegations are backed by testimony found in affidavits, videos of questionable behavior, and even elections officials in battleground states acknowledging that fraud will be found but quickly qualified that it won’t total the 10,000 votes to turn the count to Trump’s favor [1].

The challenges must be adjudicated, the laws passed by each states legislature where challenges are filed must be constitutional as well as followed, the numbers finalized, sent to the Archivist of the United States and certified by the electors of each state, and sent to the Senate and counted in a joint session at the Capitol.

There are poll watchers who were counting the numbers when polls closed for the night, who are convinced that it was mathematically impossible [2] for Joe Biden to win over Trump, but in the morning votes had “mysteriously” appeared and Biden was on top.

Although many have declared Joe Biden the winner of the 2020 Presidential race, there is still a whole lot of process to go through before that is a fact. The challenges must be adjudicated, the laws passed by each states legislature where challenges are filed must be constitutional as well as followed, the numbers finalized, sent to the Archivist of the United States and certified by the electors of each state, and sent to the Senate and counted in a joint session at the Capitol on January 6, 2020. Then, we will know who the “President-elect” will be.

But, back to the subject, what about all these funny numbers. You see, another curious thing about numbers in this election are the overvotes.

Overvotes for president versus votes for senate races are worth discussing.

OK, we should talk about them but are overvotes outside of the ordinary? Are they something to be concerned with?

Here is a graph showing the vote difference between those who voted for senator candidates versus those who voted only for presidential candidates. The numbers were obtained from MSN.com data [3]. It seems many people vote for president and then don’t fill in their choice for senator in what’s called the down-ballot.

Some of those numbers are large, but what are they when considered as percentages? The states of Nebraska(+9%) and Montana (-.03%) were removed because they skewed the average. Not by much, but we used the number of 1.19% (marked by the red line) as the mean.

The percentages are comparably low, but when actual votes are compared, there are tens of thousands of overvotes for President. That could be an opening for attack by anyone who wants to affect the election. There are reports of thousands of ballots dropped off with votes only for Biden. None for Trump. No down-ballot voting. Is anyone interested? Just asking.

The math is not adding up. Will anyone check the equation?

Machines Are Switching Votes, And Their Use Is Widespread

According to the website, Daily Wire, “Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel and Michigan GOP Chairwoman Laura Cox held a press conference on Friday outlining alleged irregularities and a software glitch that apparently caused 6,000 votes cast for Republican candidates to be inaccurately counted as votes for Democrats [4].”

That’s certainly worth investigating considering that these machines were implemented in over 30 other locations in Michigan and in other states. They are reported to be widely used in battleground states [5].

The number of votes between President Trump and Joe Biden in the battleground states is not too wide to discount challenges.

The Michigan Secretary of State denied all of McDaniel’s and Cox’s allegations as false [6], “Michigan’s elections were conducted fairly, effectively and transparently and are an accurate reflection of the will of Michigan voters.” She continued to elaborate about the voting machines being updated before the election, “The erroneous reporting of unofficial results from Antrim county was a result of accidental error on the part of the Antrim County Clerk. The equipment and software did not malfunction and all ballots were properly tabulated. However, the clerk accidentally did not update the software used to collect voting machine data and report unofficial results.”

Report Finds More Voters Registered Than Eligible

On October 16th, a report was published indicating that among 353 U.S. counties, 1.8 million more voters might have been registered than eligible voting-age citizens.

Specifically, the Judicial Watch website explains that “the registration rates of those counties exceeded 100% of eligible voters [7].” and puts a finer point on it stating, “The study found eight states showing state-wide registration rates exceeding 100%: Alaska, Colorado, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, New Jersey, Rhode Island, and Vermont.”

Again, the math is not adding up. Something is awry.

Been Going On For Years

Then there’s the infamous ACORN debacle of the 2008 election. Although ACORN advocates assert that there was no voter fraud implicating ACORN, there are convictions on the books.

In November of 2010, at least 18 former workers admitted guilt were convicted on varying charges of election fraud [8]. The states involved were Washington, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Florida, and Nevada.

Heck, Mark Twain even wrote about democrats voting from the grave back in the 19th century in a letter called, BOB ROACH’S PLAN FOR CIRCUMVENTING A DEMOCRAT where Twain portrays Roach exclaiming when asked about the way he buried democrats, “I always plant them foreign Democrats in that manner, sir, because, damn their souls, if you plant ’em any other way they’ll dig out and vote the first time there’s an election…” I’d recommend the read. It’s only a few paragraphs and it might help your temper (or not.)

We Have A System: Prosecute Those Who Cheat

A lot of confusion still abounds about this year’s election and the allegations of voter fraud/incompetence may be unfounded, but we do have a process to follow. The number of votes between President Trump and Joe Biden in the battleground states is not too wide to discount challenges. In this election, many people voted for president but not a senator.  Does that matter? The question is still unanswered; was it fraud or just the way voters vote? If any of these allegations are found to be true, these people should face the consequences. They stole someone else’s sacred right—the right to choose a champion to govern in their place.

Whatever we find in the coming month, we must, as Americans, follow truth wherever it leads us. It’s the only way to move forward and remain a republic.

Numbers are funny things, but considering the difference in political policies on the ballot in 2020, we just need the straight numbers and no funny business.
