Chiefs Win 24-17 Over Chargers on Monday Night Football in Mexico City

Mexico City, Mex. – The Kansas City Chiefs traveled down to Mexico City for Monday Night Football against the Los Angeles Chargers; the Chiefs had a great win at 28-17. The Chiefs are now 7-4, just one game ahead of the Oakland Raiders who are 6-4 and fighting for top place in their division.

An Exciting Game

The Chargers put the first points on the board with a 3-point field goal. They had another chance to make a 3-point field goal, but the Chargers kicker did not make it- it was the first field goal missed at Estadio Azteca, the stadium the game was played in. During this game, the Chiefs quarterback, Patrick Mahomes, had his second interception for the season, the ball did come back to the Chiefs on a forced turnover.

Kansas City still hadn’t gotten any points by the time the second quarter came around. Chiefs Tyrann Mathieu made an interception, and the Chiefs got the ball back, which resulted in a touchdown and 1-point field goal. The Chargers drove down the field and got another 3-point field goal putting the score to 7-6, with the Chiefs in the lead. Both the Chiefs and Chargers made 3-point field goals before the first half ended. The score was 10-9 at halftime with the Chiefs in the lead by one point.

Kansas City received the ball to start off the second half. The Chargers quickly intercepted the ball and was working their way far down the field- fortunately for Chiefs fans, the play was flagged with a penalty on the Chargers, so the Chiefs got the ball back.

The Chiefs then made two touchdowns from Darrel Williams and Travis Kelce and two 1-point field goals putting the score to 24-9, the last points in the game came from Los Angeles when they got a touchdown then tried for a 2-point conversion which they also made.

The Chargers worked hard to beat the Chiefs, but they made a lot of mistakes. And at the end zone, it looked like the Chargers would get a touchdown, but the Chiefs intercepted the ball, possibly costing the Chargers the game. The final score was 24-17, with the Chiefs winning.

Injuries for the Chiefs

The Chiefs had three critical injuries during the game. The first was Tyreek Hill, who left the game early due to a hamstring injury- the Chiefs have reported that he will have an MRI in the next couple of days.

Running back Damien Williams exited the game in the second quarter with a rib injury and LeSean “Shady” McCoy had an injury that had to do with his head.

Chiefs Patrick Mahomes

Patrick Mahomes, Chiefs quarterback, completed 19 of 32, threw for 182 yards, threw for one touchdown and 1 interception. He also had five carries for 59 yards. He ran three times for a first down- one equal to 24 yards. Mahomes has thrown for 8,000 yards and 60 touchdowns in a 25 game span.

Next week is the Chiefs bye week- they deserve the rest and won’t be playing. On December 1, they’re going against the Oakland Raiders again at Arrowhead Stadium, the time was moved to 3:25 in the afternoon central time.
