Kansas City, Mo. – The Kansas City Chiefs have just begun their 60th season this year. After losing the AFC Championship Game to the New England Patriots in overtime; the Chiefs hope to finish the 60th season with a win in Miami; the Chiefs are now 5-2 with multiple injuries.

60th Season Things

To help celebrate the Chief’s 60th season, there are lots of apparel and other items to help in this event. There’s hoodies, baseball hats, t-shirts, sweaters, and so much more! The Chiefs hold a Red Friday before there first season game. And on Red Friday, you can get a Chiefs flag for just $5. This year’s flag was specially made for their 60th season. The 60th season logo will also be on the helmets as a unique decal.

The Chiefs History

The Chiefs were originally the Dallas Texans but in 1963, they moved to Kansas City and changed their name to the Kansas City Chiefs. Kansas City has lost 12 of their 14 playoff games. There were eight straight losses in the playoffs between 1993-2013, the longest streak of losses in the NFL. In the 2017-2018 season, the Chiefs won the AFC West with Alex Smith as the quarterback and Andy Reid as head coach- it was the first time in their history to win the AFC West back to back. But they lost the next game to the Tennessee Titans and made the record even longer for most consecutive home playoff losses, from five to six.

The Chiefs then traded Alex Smith to the Redskins and moved up backup quarterback Patrick Mahomes to starting QB; they finished the regular season 12-4 and won the AFC West for the third time in a row. When they beat the Indianapolis Colts it was the first playoff win at Arrowhead Stadium in 25 years, it was also the first time the Chiefs were to host the AFC Championship Game when they went up against the Patriots. But, unfortunately, they lost in overtime to the New England Patriots 37-31.

The Chiefs chairman and CEO, Clark Hunt, commented “As we embark on our 60th season as a franchise, I’m looking forward to celebrating this milestone by honoring the history and tradition of our team and our fans throughout the season. We were able to reach new heights as an organization last year with the tremendous support of the Chiefs Kingdom and the Kansas City community. We have even bigger goals in mind heading into 2019, and we’ve already begun our preparation. Football is back, and I’m excited to kick off our 60th season with the Sea of Red.”

Patrick Mahomes threw for 5,097 yards and 50 touchdowns. They were both team records for the Chiefs, Mahomes was the second player in the NFL history to throw for 5,000 yards and 50 touchdowns. He was also nominated the NFL Most Valuable Player- also the first Chief to do so.

We are starting the 60th season and the Chiefs have had a lot of injuries so far, including reigning MVP Patrick Mahomes, who has had a sprained ankle and a dislocated kneecap. Now the question is, do the Chiefs have enough to get to the Super Bowl and win it?
