Lady Comets Advance To District Semifinals With Win Over Puxico

The Alton Lady Comets went up against the Puxico Indians on February 19, 2024, for the Class 2 District 2 Quarterfinals in Van Buren, Missouri. The Comets took the win 87-29.

First Half

The Comets were not slow getting started. At the end of the first quarter, they were up 29-3. McKenzie Smith of the Comets got a three-pointer early in the second quarter to add to the lead. During the first half, Evin Montgomery made five out of six three-pointers. The score at halftime was 52-12.

Second Half

In the third quarter, most of Alton’s starters came out of the game. Alee Willard, McKenzie Smith, and Lilly Haddock of the Comets made three-pointers in the third quarter. At the end of the third quarter, Alton was leading 76-20. In the fourth quarter, the mercy rule was initiated meaning the clock kept on ticking no matter what. During the last couple of minutes of the game, the Indians made a couple of three-pointers. The final score was 87-29, with Alton taking the lead.

Semifinals

The Class 2 District 2 Semifinals will be on February 21st. Alton will play at 7:30 pm against the number two seed, the East Carter Redbirds. It will be a fun game to watch, as in their previous matchup at the beginning of the season, Alton lost only by eight points. [1] In District 2, the top four seeds remain, with Thayer facing Neelyville at 6:00 pm on February 21st. [2]
