Thayer, Mo. –The Thayer Bobcats football team went up against the Houston Tigers for the homecoming game on September 26, 2025, at Louis Bozman Field in Thayer. Despite battling penalties throughout the entire game, Thayer still beat the Tigers 55-12.
Explosive Start
Just 20 seconds into the game, Thomas Poole (#8 for Thayer) ran around 85 yards for a touchdown. On the Tigers drive, the Bobcats recovered a fumble. Thayer had an impressive run to get to the 1-yard line. At 9:57 left in the first quarter, Poole ran into the endzone for his second touchdown. Houston did not get a touchdown until three minutes remained in the quarter. The score at that point was 14-6. With just over a minute remaining in the quarter, Thayer got their third touchdown.

Penalties Everywhere
Cordell Washington (#1 for Thayer) was a running touchdown machine for Thayer. Washington got his first touchdown at the beginning of the second quarter, making the score 26-6. On Houston’s drive, they had a 40 yard run, but that turned out to be no good due to a penalty. Cordell Washington had a 38-yard touchdown run, lengthening the Bobcats score.

Nearing the end of the second quarter, Cordell Washington intercepted the ball right at the endzone. He followed that up with an over 80-yard run which turned out to be no good due to a penalty. The score at halftime was 33-6, with Thayer leading. With just over a minute to go in the half there were over six penalties called on the Bobcats.

Halftime
The Thayer marching band performed at halftime performing songs from the movie E.T. Despite one band member being injured and another band member’s instrument not working, the marching band and flag girls performed very well to the crowd’s enjoyment. The Bobcat cheerleaders also performed a chant and a dance at halftime.

More Points
The Bobcats continued to make plays and got two touchdowns and a two-point conversion in the third quarter. The two touchdowns came from Washington. Houston also got a touchdown made by Mason Dodson (#7 for Houston). Most of Thayer’s touchdowns came from long runs made by the players.

Bobcats Win
Washington got his fifth official touchdown of the night with 9:37 to go in the game, running around 90 yards to the endzone. On one play when Houston threw the ball, Riley White (#9 for Thayer) intercepted the ball and ran around 25 yards with it. During the last couple plays of the game, Thayer’s second string came out to finish the game. The final score was 55-12, with Thayer taking the win. Thayer’s record improves to 5-0; and next week they will travel to Cabool to battle the Bulldogs.

Homecoming
This game was also Thayer’s homecoming game. The crowning was at 6:00 pm. Between the three senior candidates- Madelynn Rhoades, Savannah Jackson, and Braelyn Eckman- the 2025 Thayer High School Homecoming Queen was Savannah Jackson escorted by Dawson Harris and Zeb DuBois.
