Alton, Mo. – Cold temperatures are forecast, with several days not expected to reach freezing. What can you do to keep warm? Where can you go? During the day, places like libraries and stores are open for people to browse in and keep warm. But what can be done at night when stores and libraries are closed? The Alton First Baptist Church has the solution. They are open as a warming station.
What Is This?
The Alton First Baptist Church opens its doors when temperatures plummet. They have cots and blankets for sleepovers. Some nights they offer warm soup. This is not a church service.
Who Can Come?
Anyone is invited to come out of the cold into the church to keep warm. This is open to all ages. They do no financial or background check. Simply come in if you are cold. They do not check whether you have an Oregon County address. This is the only warming center in Oregon County.
Temperatures
Beginning Friday, temperatures will be in the single digits or lower each night for several nights. Day temperatures are not expected to rise above freezing. The church has heat.

The Alton First Baptist Church is at 14791 Missouri 19 in Alton. This is on the south side of Alton in front of Tucker Creek Park.
