Alton, Mo. – The Alton City Council met last night. Altogether, 27 people attended the meeting. But long from a short, dull meeting, voices got heated and intense as park opinions came to the surface. Although this was not the only topic covered, it drew the most city members, who added their thoughts to the plans.
Start
As usual, the city council meeting began with the Pledge of Allegiance. It discussed the previous minutes and then continued on.
Water For Rentals
Karen brought up problems TJ Swift House was having with their rentals, water payments, and government billing. Although they want to make payments on time, it is almost impossible without knowing in advance what each water bill will be. The city council said it would look into the matter.
Pocket Park
Thoughts, plans, and grievances came next as the discussion turned to what many call the Pocket Park. One neighbor did not want a park, expecting trash in his yard. One person wanted grass and flowers. The city council remarked that they wanted cement with flower boxes.
Jerry brought up facts about funding the parks. Debbie brought up the plans the Chamber of Commerce had been working on. And Shane brought up the concrete and pavilion. Everyone thought a fence along the back side was a good idea.
In the end, it was proposed that a city forum be held to gather more opinions from local citizens, possibly bringing pictures to show the audience what was wanted.

Reports
No further reports from the parks, sewer, streets, or sewer.
Fire Department
The Alron Volunteer Fire Department held its annual fish fry on Saturday, raising $1,500, which was a little less than last year. When asked if they had a goal of how much to receive, Rusty answered, ‘A hundred more than we spend.’ Although if $10,000 came in, they would use it.
After this, there were no additional reports.
