Thayer, Mo. – The Thayer Bobcats high school football team went up against the Pocahontas Redskins on August 28, 2026, at Louis Bozman Field in Thayer, Missouri. Despite a rough three quarters, the Bobcats managed to battle through and win their season opener 38-20.

Redskins Lead
The Redskins took an early lead, getting two touchdowns in the first quarter with one of them being from Xayver Ballard (#21 from Pocahontas). Thayer struggled in the first quarter with fumbles and penalties.

Tie Game
In the second quarter, Thayer found their rhythm. The defense made key stops and the offense went and got the touchdowns. Thomas Poole (#8 for Thayer) made an impressive 36 yard run bringing Thayer closer to the endzone. On the last play of the quarter, Corbin Taylor (#20 for Thayer) made an interception for his team. The score at halftime was 14-14.

Evenly Matched
Both teams brought their A-game in the third quarter. Pocahontas was the first on the board in the third quarter, making the score 20-14. The Bobcats would not let them get away with that and matched it with a touchdown from Rowan Johnson (#11 for Thayer) and an interception by Taylor. The score at the end of the third quarter was 22-20, with Thayer in the lead.

Thayer Wins It
The special teams, defense, and offense for the Bobcats worked extremely well, continuing to score points and not letting Pocahontas score. Although the Redskins had some nice runs in the fourth quarter, none of them led to anything. Thayer got two more touchdowns before the same ended. The final score was 38-20 with Thayer taking home the win.
