A local artist, Seth Collins, hopes to raise awareness of the value of art by donating proceeds of a spray paint art raffle to the Alton, Missouri, High School Art Club. The Art Club is currently considering further fundraising ideas and field trip options.

Walnut Festival

On October 1, 2022, the Black Gold Walnut Festival happened in historic downtown Alton, Missouri. During the Walnut Festival, spray paint art was raffled off by Seth Collins, 28, to raise funds for the Alton High School Art Club. His painting wasn’t expected to fetch much money, but the artist has found that art and music have great value in his everyday life. He says the painting was a result of experimenting with new techniques and that,

You don’t have to be da Vinci to make art. When I need an outlet of self-expression, art and music are always there for me.

About The Painter

Seth Collins, 28, a lifelong resident of Alton, learned to love drawing as a young child. As a teenager, he fell in love with metal and punk music, picked up the bass guitar and drums, and became quite creative with markers and spray paint. He played drums in the Alton High School Pep Band, and upright bass with his family bluegrass band, Hightower Road.
Nowadays, Seth plays metal and punk exclusively, works to develop skills on the bass guitar, and dabbles with drawing and spray paint art. Collins says of music and art,

It’s more powerful than man, and can express an idea that lasts longer than the man who made it.”

Collins believes that “kids need to experience art in-person rather than on a screen.” When asked what he liked most about his paintings, he stated:

I get more out of the process than the end result.

Art Club

This week, the Alton High School Art Club will begin considering fund raising campaigns and field trip options. The Alton community is generous to all student groups. Seth would like to remind you, “Don’t forget to Support the Arts.”
