The Alton Sew Blessed Piecemakers "Sunflower" Quilt.

The Alton, Missouri, Sew Blessed Piecemakers is a local quilting group formed last spring. The last project they did was a beautiful “Sunflower” themed quilt. The quilt will be given away at noon on October 7th at the Walnut Festival.

The Group

Sew Blessed Piecemakers was formed in the spring of 2022. They meet monthly on the second Tuesday at the S & S Fabric shop in Alton. Each month, one of their members presents a block pattern and instructions on how to put the block together, along with sharing tips and show and tell. They have selected some of the finished blocks to complete quilts that are used to help others in the community.

Past Projects

Their past projects have included the following: a red and green “Simple Star” quilt that was a fundraiser for the group to help defray some of the cost of making the quilts; it was given away at the Walnut Festival.

A blue and white “Holly and Ivy” quilt was used to raise funds for the “Giving Tree” clothes closet at the Alton school.

Another quilt the group made was their first red, white, and blue Quilt of Valor, which was presented to Dale Adrian to show their appreciation for his service to our country. Sew Blessed Piecemakers plan to present another Quilt of Valor to a deserving veteran to thank them for their service.

Current Project

The current project that the members have made is a beautiful “Sunflower” themed quilt. The quilt is being used to raise funds to help with expenses at the new location of the Alton/Oregon County Food Pantry.

Display

If you want to see the quilt in person, it is currently displayed at the Alton Bank from September 18th through 22nd. Next week, September 25th, it will be moved to Simpson’s True Value.
