The different types of blood.

The Ozarks Medical Center (OMC) and Community Blood Center of the Ozarks announced two upcoming blood drives for West Plains. One is Friday, June 19th and the second is Friday, August 14th.

Blood Drive Details

The OMC Parkway Center is hosting the blood drive this coming Friday, June 19th. It will welcome doners between noon and 6:00 p.m. Walk-ins are accepted. Otherwise, if you prefer, you can call and make an appointment at 1-800-280-5337. You can also go online and make an appointment here. Although not necessary, appointments help keep donation time to a minimum.

Who Can Donate?

As we want only healthy blood to be transferred to one who needs it, there are restrictions in donating blood. The first is that you must be at least 16 years old and weigh at least 110 pounds. Certain medications or conditions may prevent some to donate. On this site is a list of conditions and medicines to guide the individual who may want to donate. It is wide-ranging, but it is not complete. One can call the above phone number for individual questions.

What To Expect?

A registration form and confidential screening are completed each time one donates. The facility is medically sterile using only single-use needles. Additional tips for after donating blood include eating well, increasing your fluids, leaving your bandage on for about two hours.

OMC Parkway is located at 12 Parkway Center in West Plains. This is the shopping center with Pizza Hut and Ramey’s grocery store.
