Right after Thanksgiving, we head into Christmas. Cities across Missouri and the nation are having Christmas parades. Alton, Missouri, has their Christmas parade set for Saturday, December 3, 2022, with festivities starting at 4:30 pm.
The Mr. and Mrs. Merry Christmas pageant is also the night of the parade. The Christmas tree lighting and the pageant will be on the Courthouse lawn at 4:30 pm. You can read more about it here.
This year’s parade theme is “Christmas in the Ozarks.” The parade line-up will be at 5:30 pm with the parade starting at 6:00 pm.
The parade will start at the Alton High School with the line-up. After that, it’ll go past the Alton Motel onto Highway 19. It will go onto Couch Street and circle around the square before finally going past the Burger Palace and to the school. The strobe-free zone is for people who are negatively affected by emergency lights and sirens. The no parking zone is so that the floats can turn that corner coming onto the square.
Entry Forms and Judging
As the parade entrants go down to the school, they can fill out their entry form handed out by a team of people at the top of the school hill. The forms will be given to the judges who will judge the different floats and vehicles during the parade at the Community Worship Center.
There are two different categories for the floats: secular and sacred. The prizes are $100, $75, and $50. For the ATVs/UTVs, the prizes are $50, $35, and $20. The best classic car and antique car will receive plaques.
Floats and Vehicles
All the UTVs and ATVs must be decorated to enter the parade. Horses and their owners are also encouraged to come!
Make sure to come out and have a fun evening with family and friends, and spread the Christmas cheer!
