President Donald Trump is encouraging the Senate to put the stop on twice-annual clock changes by making daylight saving time permanent. Although the House passed the bill in July, the Senate has refused to discuss it or vote on it.

The House passed the Sunshine bill, eliminating changing our clocks twice yearly, in July 2026.
Senate Stoppage
Meanwhile, this bill to make daylight saving time permanent has been folded into a larger measure that the House Energy and Commerce Committee did advance in May. Although the Senate will reconvene on September 14, 2026, critics say that the bill will not pass. Some say it does not have enough votes. Others say it will not make it to the floor for a vote.
