General elections.

The Southern Baptist Convention convened last week. It is the largest Protestant denomination in the United States, representing approximately 12.7 million people. As in some years, they moved left with their recommendations and votes; this year, however, was more of a middle ground on the main topics.

The Southern Baptist ConventionĀ adopted multiple resolutions last week on topics crucial to modern life, including marriage, sexuality, and human life.

Homosexual Marriages

One resolution called for the overturning of the U.S. Supreme Court’s Obergefell v. Hodges ruling, which legalized homosexual marriage. In recent months, there has been a growing effort on the part of some Republican lawmakers to overturn this decision, and thus allow states to ban same-sex marriage.

This resolution affirms that there are only two genders, defines marriage as between a man and a woman, says families are designed for procreation, and that human life is sacred ā€œfrom conception to natural death.ā€ That is quite a lot for a single resolution.

Abortion

Another resolution called for Congress and state legislatures to ban chemical abortion drugs. They called upon the FDA to immediately revoke its approval of mifepristone. Not only is it harmful to the unborn child, but it also harms the mother.

Pornography

And a third resolution called for the banning of pornographic content. The resolution titled ā€œOn Banning Pornographyā€ called on lawmakers to enact comprehensive laws that ban the creation, publication, hosting, and distribution of pornographic content in all media. They aim to wipe out all pornography.
