Thayer Bobcats Win Third Place In Class 3 Over Montgomery County

The Thayer Bobcats basketball team went up against the Montgomery County Wildcats on March 9, 2024, in Columbia, Missouri, for the Class 3 third place game. The Thayer Bobcats got the win and the third place trophy with a 61-49 win.

Switching Leads

Just a couple minutes in the first quarter, Devin Harrington (#3 for Bobcats) made his first slam dunk of the game. Harrington came back a couple minutes later for another slam dunk, making the score 9-6, with Thayer leading. With :45 in the quarter, both Aidan Burns (#12 for Bobcats) and Jay Rodgers (#5 for Wildcats) made a three-pointer for their team. The score at the end of the first quarter was 16-13, with Thayer in the lead.

Lengthening Lead

The second quarter started off with another dunk from Devin Harrington. The Bobcats then went on a run having two three-pointers from Aidan Burns, a block from Harrington, and a steal from Cooper Clark (#50 for Bobcats). The Bobcats continued to lead as the half ended, 37-28.

Third Quarter

In the first couple of minutes of the third quarter, there were several turnovers from both teams. On a steal made by Aidan Burns, Burns passed it to Harrington who made his fourth dunk in the game. The Bobcats held the Wildcats to no points until a little over two minutes left in quarter. The score at the end of the third quarter was 49-36, with Thayer still leading.

Thayer Takes The Win

In the beginning of the final quarter, both teams had trouble making points. Around five minutes left in the game, both teams began to find the bucket again. Aidan Burns made several free throw shots contributing to his 23 game points. The final score was 61-49, with Thayer winning third place in Class 3 for the third straight year.

Recap

Thayer finished the year with a record of 23-9. Three Thayer players played their last basketball game as a Bobcat: Rowan Spencer, Mark Spencer, and Aidan Burns. Each senior did his part in helping bring the team to third place.
