Like Winter? Try Visiting Lake Tahoe- They Just Got Snow!

Snow falling down hard.

Some people prefer hot climates to go out and bask in the sunlight. Conversely, some prefer to bundle up with hardly any part of their body remaining uncovered. If you are one of the latter group, perhaps you could plan a vacation to Lake Tahoe in California. On June 23, 2025, they got snow, hail, and strong winds. This is uncommon even for that area.

Lake Tahoe

Lake Tahoe is an ideal vacation for many adults. Prime lake locations, perfect temperatures, wildlife, and seclusion are all here. It is located south of Interstate 80 in the Sierra Nevada Mountain range.

Weather

The cold weather kicked up quickly on June 23. Hail and strong winds wreaked destruction on vacationers. Snow came alongside it. Interesting, as this was the beginning of summer. By early afternoon, winds and waves increased; boats capsized. By 5 pm, waves were 7-10 feet, and the temperature plummeted to only 35 degrees. One person commented on the weather change, “You were outside tanning in the sun and next thing you knew you could see your breath.”

While it is not uncommon for cold weather to be forecast into June, the morning temperatures were in the 60s.

Wyoming

Although not as many tourists flock to Wyoming, it also receives its share of snow. Fourteen inches and whiteout conditions took place on Beartooth Pass (US212), closing it for the day.

The moral of the story is to check the weather where you are going, before you get there.
