Thayer, Mo. – Thayer held a town hall meeting on Thursday, July 30, 2026. Candidates running for various positions attended, ready to answer questions from the public. Although most questions were referred to the presiding commissioner and his opponent, other candidates answered questions about the amendments and their views.

Block Cameras
The mayor began the meeting by speaking about block cameras, which the city does not use. Although some advocate for them to deter crime and apprehend criminals, neither Thayer nor Alton has violent criminals to allow for these tools.
The meeting continued to the four amendments.

Amendments
This is a summary of the four amendments we get to vote on.
Number one deals with continuing the tax funding for our soil and water conservation and our parks. This is a ten-year tax, to be renewed every ten years.
Number two asks if we want each county to pay for an assessor.
There is no amendment three. Number four asks about voting representation, using districts as a majority.
Number five eliminates our state income tax.
Then there are county appropriation questions asking for additional funding for our law enforcement officers and attorney. Do we need a full-time prosecuting attorney? Then they took questions regarding these amendments.

Candidates
The Q&A time was followed by a meet-the-candidate time. Those present were allowed a 5-minute talk. When everyone spoke, the floor was opened to questions. Our county prosecutor gave insights into each of the amendments. Representative Keith Elliott also spoke on how Jefferson City views the amendments.
Incumbent Judge Allen spoke on his previous training in every type of case. Stubblefield spoke on what he’s accomplished: broadband, selling timber, FEMA funds from last year’s storms, and the jail renovation. He was questioned about the 911 system. He was asked what was happening with our Eleven Point State Park. He replied, “Nothing going on.” The man working on it is no longer doing it, and there is no one to take his place.
Be sure to watch the video to see how the candidates spoke.
