Sadly, Queen Elizabeth II, the longest reigning British monarch, passed away today [1]. Former and current world leaders as well as politicians of every political party express their condolences to the grieving. She was the only queen most Britons had ever known.

Last Details

In the spring, she contracted covid and has felt tired and exhausted ever since. It was the death of her husband, Prince Phillip, that began the downward spiral of her health. Fulfilling her duties until the end, one of the final tasks she took care of was meeting the incoming prime minister. At the age of 96, she passed away quietly in her family’s presence.

Biography

She was born Elizabeth Alexandra Mary Windsor on April 21, 1926. At the young age of 13, Princess Elizabeth made a radio announcement expressing her sympathy for the children who were evacuated from their homes. She married Prince Phillip in 1947. At the young age of 25, she was crowned queen. It was celebratory as the end of post-war gloom. She and Prince Phillip had four children.

Accomplishments

Queen Elizabeth II was head of state while 14 prime ministers came and left office. Queen Elizabeth II was the first British monarch to celebrate a platinum jubilee- she ruled for 70 years! She was known for her work ethic and peace.

Successor

Her oldest son, Prince Charles, is now King Charles III [2]. Flags were lowered at Buckingham Palace and around Britain to half-mast in her honor.
