A little over two weeks remain in the regular season of high school basketball. Both the Lady Alton Comets and Lady Thayer Bobcats are in Class 2 District 2. Here’s a look into the top four teams in the district.

Thayer

The Lady Bobcats have a record of 17-7, and are the number one seed in the district. They have faced several good teams including the reigning state champions the Lady Mammoth Spring Bears. Most of their losses have been within 10 points. Thayer will receive a first round bye in the tournament and will play the winner of the Neelyville/Greenville game.

East Carter

The East Carter Redbirds (20-5) come in as the number two seed. Three of East Carter’s losses came from the Doniphan Donettes (21-0). The Redbirds haven’t had an extremely tough season. East Carter will play Van Buren in the quarterfinals.

Alton

The Lady Comets (21-4) are the number three seed. The Comets have also faced several good teams. Their losses come from East Carter, Mammoth Spring, Doniphan, and Thayer. They have also won several tournaments including the Mountain Grove Holiday Tournament and the Big Springs Conference Tournament. The Comets will face off against the Puxico Indians on February 19th.

Neelyville

The fourth seed in district two is the Neelyville Tigers (15-10). Like the other three teams, the Tigers have had tough opponents. They’ve faced Doniphan, Portageville, Kennett, and Delta. Two of their matches were against the Doniphan Donnettes, where they lost both. Two other losses came from East Carter. Neelyville will go up against the Greenville Bears on February 19th.
