The Thayer Bobcats boys basketball team went up against the Liberty Eagles on February 24, 2024, in Houston, Missouri, for the Class 3 District 10 Championship game. The Bobcats took the win 50-36.

First Quarter

The Eagles had the game plan of running the clock out, and it worked for the first half. The first points of the game came from Rowan Spencer (#2 for Bobcats) at the free throw line.  Both teams kept within a couple points of each other with the socre at the end of the first quarter being 11-9, with Thayer leading.

Still A Close Game

Devin Harrington (#3 for Bobcats) made two back-to-back blocks to start the second quarter off. Rowan Spencer made a steal with around five minutes in the half, and Mark Spencer (#5 for Bobcats) almost made a steal on a Liberty inbound. Harrington made a three-pointer with 3:31 in the quarter. The Eagles decided to run the clock out, and they did so successfully for about one minute until Aidan Burns (#12 for Bobcats) stole the ball. The score at halftime was 18-15, with Thayer still leading.

Thayer’s Show

The third quarter was all Thayer; it was also a Devin Harrington show. He made several points, steals, rebounds, and blocks. He also had a slam dunk right before the quarter ended. The Bobcats defense didn’t let the Eagles score until there was 1:30 left in the quarter. The score at the end of the third quarter was 33-20, with Thayer in the lead.

Thayer Wins

Although Thayer was ahead thirteen points, Terrell Gaines for Liberty tried to get his team back on top. He made multiple three-pointers throughout the entire game, and really carried his team throughout the game. With under three minutes in the game, Easton Pitts (#1 for Bobcats) made a steal. The ball was eventually passed to Harrington who made a dunk. Shortly after, Devin Harrington made another dunk. The final score was 50-36, with Thayer taking the win. Devin Harrington ended up with 19 points and seven dunks. Rowan Spencer made 14 points.

Games

This is Thayer’s eleventh straight district championship title, and the twenty-sixth in program history. Thayer will battle the Fatima Comets on February 27th at 5:00 pm at the Thayer High School in the Class 3 Sectionals. [1] Thayer, now, is the only Oregon County team still in the playoffs, as the Couch Indians fell to the Chadwick Cardinals in their District Championship, 57-22. [2]
