A winter weather advisory is out for Alton, Missouri, until midnight on Thursday, February 3, 2022. Snow and ice are expected to fall. Be prepared for it by getting your groceries and necessary items now before the storm hits.

Ice

National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is calling for rain before nine in the morning on Wednesday, February 2, 2022, than freezing rain. [1] It goes back and forth between freezing rain, sleet, and snow as the day goes on.

The Snow

The weather stations are saying that most of the snow will fall on Thursday. Before that, some flurries may fall, but it will be mostly freezing rain and ice.

Accumulation

AccuWeather is calling for 1-3 inches of snow and between .5 and 1 inch of ice. [2] [3] All the weather stations are calling for a total accumulation of snow and sleet to be between 4 and 10 inches. NOAA also says that ice accumulations will be around a quarter of an inch.

Where Is It?

The warning is out for portions of southeast Kansas, and portions of central, east central, south central, and southwest Missouri. [4]

Be Careful

It is advised that you do not drive in this weather. Bridges and roads will ice over and be slippery and hazardous. The snow and ice on trees could down power lines and could cause power outages. If you have to travel, it is suggested that you keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.
