Although America is often regarded as a Christian nation, that perception is changing. Along with the rest of the world, we watch as Muslims have children and raise families. While most Christians and other religious families are not ‘being fruitful and multiplying’, those in Islam are. A recent Pew Research report reported that discovery. They investigated the growth of religious groups worldwide between 2010 and 2020.
Growth
All religious groups, except Buddhists, increased in numerical terms during the specified time frame. Muslims grew the most, followed by the religiously unaffiliated. Christians increased by about five percent, from 2.1 billion to 2.3 billion people.
As a share of the global population, only Muslims and the religiously unaffiliated experienced growth. Christians and Buddhists decreased as a share of the global population while Hindus, Jews, and other religions held steady.
For numbers alone, Muslims added more people during this decade (347 million) than all non-Muslim religions combined (248 million).
Homes
As this religious group grows, they need housing. This brings them to Europe and America. But wherever they move, they bring their religion, often clashing with Christian foundations.
As a result of the rapid growth of the Muslim population, the gap between the global number of Muslims and Christians is shrinking. While the Muslim populations in Europe and North America are much smaller than in African nations, they grew much more rapidly from 2010 to 2020 than the non-Muslim populations in those regions.
Families
Muslims have a notably higher fertility rate than other religious groups around the world. The global Muslim population has experienced rapid growth due to demographic factors. Muslims have more children and are younger, on average, than members of any other major religion. At the global level, Muslim population change has little to do with people converting into or out of the faith.
Worldwide, Muslims are a majority of the population in 53 countries and territories. Will Christians continue to ignore God’s command to have children while allowing Muslims to increase their families? This will determine the future of America.
