As autumn approaches quickly and warm weather begins to fade, people tend to spend more time outdoors. While outdoors, we encounter a wide range of wildlife and various forms of fauna. Painting an outdoor scene is a great way to increase our appreciation for the natural world around us. To help foster appreciation, the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) is hosting a “Birds in Oil Pastels” class.
What Is This?
The MDC is hosting a program to educate people about Missouri’s native birds. The attendees can try to paint a picture of a bird. At this class, MDC Naturalist Wendy Lott will discuss the variety of native birds that spend all, or part, of the year in our local region. She will also discuss how to attract birds to your property, and perhaps even as close as your backyard.
When Is This?
This class will take place on Saturday, September 13, 2025, from 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm.
Where Is This?
This class happens in Winona at the Twin Pines Conservation Education Center. This is located just east of Winona. From Alton, take Mo 19 north to US 60. Then go east. It will be on your right. The class takes place here; it is not a virtual class.
Does This Cost?
There is no cost to attend. However, registration is required.
Who Can Attend?
The program is open to all ages, but an adult must accompany attending children.
The class will end with the opportunity to paint a rose-breasted grosbeak or a painted bunting. All painting supplies will be furnished. Participants should dress for an afternoon of painting.
