Spring and warm weather is upon us. We have a tendency to spend more time outdoors, hiking, biking, and running. With these activities come accidents. Besides them, there are insect stings or other wounds. It is important to have a first aid kit handy at home and in the car. But what needs to go into a kit? While it cannot possibly hold an ambulance and a stretcher, it can hold certain items necessary to stabilize a wound.
Bandages
Bandages and dressings should be the first item in your kit. It is best to have several sizes of bandages and medical tape.
Ointments
Anti-biotic ointments, as well as calamine lotions, are good. For any emergency, have hand sanitizer or antibacterial wipes available. Bug spray and sunscreen are good for the kit. This is where a small bottle of alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, or iodine.
Pain Relief
If someone takes prescription medicines, some extra stashed away at this time would be advised. Other medications like Tylenol, laxatives, and anti-diarrheal meds can be stored here.
Tools
Besides these items, tools are helpful. Try adding a thermometer, scissors, tweezers, Q-tips, and disposable gloves.
This list is Not inclusive. Before embarking on an adventure, think of what can go wrong and prepare for an emergency beforehand. You cannot take too much, and you do not want to be left lacking.
