Alton, Mo. – The Alton city council met on Monday, March 9, 2026, at City Hall. This is the last meeting before the elections to designate new aldermen or renew existing ones. However, that was not one of the topics discussed. They did discuss a city-wide yard sale, bounce houses for the fireworks celebrations, water changes, road report, and the dates for city cleanup.
Yard Sale
The Alton Culture Club is determining if there is enough interest to have a city-wide yard sale on the square. They will need to fill out an application, but the city council thought it was a good idea. It will be in May. They will report back in April on the level of interest.
Bounce Houses
Bounce houses do cost money. But for the Independence Day celebration, nothing is too much! Bounce houses will be part of the festivities.
Water
As a result of tenants not paying for water usage, the city will switch to billing the landowner for water. It will be up to the landowner to collect water payments. The change will take effect when a renter leaves the home, returning the water payment to the owner.
Roads
Alton, among other places, will receive no more grants from the federal government for roads. They will find creative ways to maintain our roads while eliminating potholes.
City Cleanup
The dates for Alton’s city cleanup were announced. It will be the week of April 6-10, 2026.
Elections
Though not discussed, elections are scheduled for Tuesday, April 7. We will be voting for two aldermen, while five people are running for those positions. There are also important tax decisions on this ballot.
