Alton, Mo. – The Alton Chamber of Commerce met on Thursday, April 24, 2025, at noon at the Methodist Church. Nine people were present. They again discussed the Walnut Festival, their tax filing, the pocket park, and the election of officers.
Walnut Festival
While last month’s meeting decided on various committees and members to help facilitate the growing needs of the annual Walnut Festival, discussion and change were presented at April’s meeting. A vendor committee is necessary to organize applications and communicate with the vendors. Time was spent discussing what music to play at the festival. Several people will be looking into the group’s availability. The festival will last from 10 am until 4 pm.
They are looking for someone to sing the National Anthem.
Friday evening preceding the festival will have a themed run and a cruise-in. There will not be a dance. But the chamber is looking into bounce houses.
Scholarship
Navah Morris won the college scholarship. With a GPA over 3.0, she plans on studying HVAC.
Elections
The current Chamber officers will be up for reelection in May. The chamber members want structure and stability, so they plan to bring back Robert’s Rules.
Taxes
They are working through the 501 (c) tax status.
Park
The paperwork for creating the pocket park was filed. They will receive an answer by the end of May.
