Each year, HSLDA (Home School Legal Defense Assoc) hosts five separate contests. Each contest is open to students that are schooled at home between the ages of 7-19. It does not matter which curriculum the student uses, how long he has been homeschooled, or for what reason. HSLDA only wants to support homeschooled families. The contests that are just opening are for short story writing and photography.

Photography Contest

Depending on your child’s age, the theme is fancy, serene, or simple.

Short Story

The three themes for short stories are truthfulness, hard work, and contentment.

For either the short story or the photo contest, one can enter up to three submissions.

Ages

The entire contest is open to homeschooled students ages 7-17. In each contest, the themes are broken down further into age groups. The student is to do the work himself.

When Is The Contest?

Both of these contests are open now, from June 1 through August 1, 2023.

Is There An Entry Fee?

To enter HSLDA charges a $10 fee for members and a $15 fee for non-members. All funds generated through contests go to help other homeschool families through hard times.

Are There Prizes?

Yes! Each age division has a monetary prize for first, second, and third places. Honorable mentions also receive a prize.
