It’s that time of year again to apply for Missouri bear and elk permits. Apply during the month of May for only $10 each for a chance to draw a 2023 Missouri Resident Black Bear Hunting Permit and a 2023 Missouri Resident Antlered Elk Hunting Permit. Applications opened May 1 online at Online-Sales | Missouri Department of Conservation. The results of the random drawings will be available by July 1.

Bear Season

Although the bear season is in October, one must apply for an application. Only a limited number of residents are allowed to hunt the bears. However, if one wishes to participate in black bear hunts, one must apply for a permit. That application process is only valid in May. The Missouri Department of Conservation keeps close tabs on the number of bears harvested. One can find out the details here.

Elk Season

Elk season is also in October and again in December. As a new hunt for Missourians, the numbers grow annually for a permit. Similar to bears, one applies in May to be chosen for an elk permit. Only a limited number are chosen. Last year, each hunter chosen did harvest an elk. You can find out more details by clicking here.

One can apply for a permit for each hunt. The possibility of being drawn for a hunt depends on how many apply for each hunt. To submit an application, the MDC charges a $10 fee. If one does get chosen, he will still have to purchase the required permit.
