Alton, Mo. – The Great American Eclipse is less than a year away. Crossing directly over Alton, Missouri, many visitors are already planning their vacation spots here or in the area. However, local campgrounds, rentals, and Airbnbs are already reserved for the eclipse. What can you do? Here are just a few suggestions.

Try Your Church

Churches are known to be hospitable. Many churches even host singing or preaching groups from time to time. How about advertising to another church that they can stay at the Alton church? Whether it is a church in northern Missouri or northern Montana, the residents there will not be in the path of totality. Through networking, why not invite some families down? Perhaps these families can stay inside the church? Perhaps several congregation members can open their homes to visitors for this event? What an opportunity to get to know people from another area!

Open Your Home

Do you have a spare room? Perhaps your basement is furnished, but you have not used it recently. It was brought up at the recent Chamber meeting that local homeowners may want to invite a family to stay with them for this event. It would be up to the host and the visitors to discuss charges. This can be a test of your capabilities as a host of future rentals.

Perhaps you have an open field that people may bring a tent into.

Airbnb

Airbnbs are becoming more popular. One person has extra space. He can then rent out a room, spare cabin, or wherever is available. One can go online to find numerous suggestions to start an Airbnb, including how to market it. While the eclipse is a single weekend event, you may decide the extra income is worth the extra trouble.

Decisions

Now is the time to begin making the decisions. If you want an additional family or couple to stay at your home, you have to prepare. The first step is deciding to do something. Many visitors are expected to come for the eclipse. This is one way to make their stay a pleasant one.
