Alton, Mo. – On Tuesday, May 30, 2023, the Alton Senior Center celebrated fifty years of senior services. During the celebration, they served hot dogs and hamburgers for lunch and passed out prizes. After lunch, they had the pie-in-the-faces time.

Meal

The Alton Senior Center served a cooked-out hotdog/hamburger luncheon. Seniors ate free that day. During the meal, the center drew a name for a 50-year celebration blanket. Following the meal, the center drew names for the pie throwing.

The celebration came with community awareness. The senior center has been low on funding since the pandemic. They are trying to raise awareness in the community while earning funds from the community. The event was based on funds received. Earlier, cans were strategically located in several businesses around town. Residents could then donate to the senior center. Depending on how much was raised, who or how many workers got pies in their faces.

How Much Was Raised?

The senior center is trying to redirect funds previously appropriated to seniors back to the seniors. However, the bill is currently on Governor Parson’s desk. You can read about it here.

The Alton Senior Center is pleased to announce $425.70 raised to help seniors and the center. Because this amount was higher than expected (thank you to all who donated!), all three workers got two pies a piece thrown in the faces. Seniors did the throwing.

This was a fun time for seniors as well as the workers. Thank you to the community for all the support.
